| Ernie Staffie x 9 months Headley Down Hants
ResRem 04/07/09 2:28
His Story: Abandoned as a pup, tied up outside a shop in London.
Salient points: Maturing puppy fostered with young children, cats and another dog. Needs further training and support through adolescence. Needs company of another skilled dog.
Advert: Ernie is about 9 months old, a Staffie cross becoming a medium sized leggier dog, not a stocky Staffie. He didn't have the best start in life, not that we know for sure. Ernie was abandoned tied up outside a London shop. Though welcoming of dogs, not dog skilled. Building his social competencies has to be his main focus for the next year. He hadn't positive experiences - tried to make friends, but was seeing dogs as a threat to his food and 'much needed' affection. Thank God Ernie has a foster family there for him to 'unpack and rebuild' these relationship boundaries, learning to trust and instill a sense of security. Now settling in, even waits under supervision for a few seconds before tucking into his dinner! That's real progress!! Ernie mixes well with dogs outside enjoying off lead 'frolicking' and adores 'hide n' seek' teaching him recall. We want Ernie to be homed with another confident role model dog to continue his development of pack sharing and caring. Fostered very successfully with very young children.
So Ernie is a very clever boy and is coming on a treat. He has mastered 'sit' and we're now working on 'down' with the help of tasty treats. Eager to please, needs clear ground rules administered with firm love. He is a smashing little dog trying to shift away from difficult beginnings and is making it through, gaining confidence by the day (read naughty!!). He is very chewy and wants to be into everything. Housetrained with rare overnight accident, crate trained for short spells of being left. Ernie is neutered, vax'd and chipped.
Ernie's beauty is emergent, becoming more radiant daily. His foster family adore him, have put a lot of work in and have turned him onto a sure footing. Difficult beginnings fading, he is walking away from the 'rescue dog' label and blending into the dog-scape to play 'Happy Families' and of course is hoping to become "Complete" with his very own Happy Family soon.

| Panda Rotti 3yrs Horley Surrey
ResRem 04/07/09 2:26
His Story: Found stray and ran out of time in a pound.
Salient points: Was overweight on finding, suggesting lack of exercise. Coat poor, but will come right. Good instincts with people and dogs.
Advert: Panda is a 3 yr old Rottie with all the good characteristics known of the breed. His fur is slightly longer than smooth and so has a little wave on his back. He has a massive head and well proportioned body. Panda is gentle and affection, soon settling with strangers. His instincts are to lick and although was hand shy when he arrived 2 months ago, is now trusting with respectful people. He has a good posture and movement and his hips are fine. He appears housetrained and knows to sit and give paw. Panda is snipped, chipped and vax'd.
Panda needs to be homed in with confident owners who understand large dogs and can offer him the guidance he requires to manage his life. Such a well meaning dog who wins your heart in a jiffy. Currently kennelled near Gatwick W Sussex.

| Socks Shepherd x collie 9 yrs North London
ResRem 04/07/09 2:23
His Story: Found stray 4 yrs ago at around the age of 5. Owned for a few months then passed on to Pub owners where his only exercise was a roof top. They lost their accomodation and tried to rehome him twice, the last time he was found stray and ended up in kennels for 10 days whilst they traced his owners. Passed on to his current fosterer who really doesn't have the right circumstances else would keep.
Salient points: Good with people, dogs and possibly cats. Was overweight now approaching correct weight. Coat poor, but coming right.
Advert: Socks is a Shepherd x Collie about 9 yrs old now and 'mellow'. Socks could write a book. We only know the last 4 chapters and that washes the handkerchiefs. You can see by these pictures exactly what type of dog he is ... a gentle bear. He is neutered, vax'd and chipped. All sorted just tweaking to do by his forever owners. Having a great time currently with lots of social walks, but needs to find his home as soon as possible due to imminent move.
Socks has reached that stage of life where he doesn't need to prove himself, just happy to 'Be'. Socks’ fosterer is determined he will lay that head into the lap of his next owner and sigh with relief. After a settling period when Socks has got the sense of place, routine and expectations you'll be able just to move ahead with fun times and that special thrill of being there for a special dog. Some dogs find a crock of Gold towards the end of their journey.

| Jay & Chleo Fell Terrier 2 yrs 2together 4ever
ResRem 04/07/09 2:20
His and Her Story: Grew up together same age, but different litters. In with an adult family who thought buying 2 puppies would keep each other company whilst they worked 10-12 hours. Move of house prompted them coming into rescue at age of one. Fostered for a while, but kennelled since January.
Salient points: Both attractive Fell terriers ?Bedlington crosses. Chleo focuses on activity, task and excels in training. Jay focuses on people. Neither good at recall due to chase instinct, so retained on extenders. Jay needs supervised intros with dogs, soon relaxes, but needs intensive socialisation to develop his confidence further.
Advert: Jay is a beautiful wire-haired 'grey' Patterdale (Black Fell). Chleo a smaller frizzed coated grey and beige Fell Terrier. They have always lived together, born within days of each other, but from different litters. Both can be trusted around 'youngish' children, but no cats. Jay loves people and doesn't engage in toys, more people play! Yes he moults which may be a consideration for some. Jay has a gentle rather submissive temperament ... he gives his heart totally and didn't eat for days when a member of his family left home. Chleo is more activity based and would do well at Agility, more aloof with people, but still very loving.
There is great harmony between Jay and Chleo. How wonderful for someone looking for 2 dogs. They both need to be retained on leads as their chase instincts are keen and they have 'selective hearing' outside! Jay was run over, but had no injury other than grazing. This happened because of over-trusting them off lead. Jay is the one who wants to sit beside you, loves to see you arrive home, so excited and soaks in companionship. Chleo is ready to engage you in 'trick and treats' and will delight you with her balls games as she delights herself. Both are neutered, vacc'd and chipped. Currently kennelled in Gatwick W Sussex.
Please visit their individual threads in Dogs needing homes in our care on this forum to find out more about them and follow their progress. We have now made a joint thread to make people aware this is a couple of great worth. Please Click Terrierrescue

| Spud Shepherd x Collie 15 months Donnington Castle Barks
ResRem 04/07/09 2:12
His Story: Spud was found stray in a nervous state. He was not claimed.
Salient points: Initial nerves, but soon gains confidence. Submissive by nature. Ideally needs to be homed with a confident other dog or dog confident family.
Advert: Spud is about 80% German Shepherd, and about 15 months old. He has the long body, Shepherd tail and muzzle ... even fur type. His ears however suggest a complimentary influence perhaps Collie. He is young, around 11 months. He nerves suggest inexperience or sensitive by nature, rather than from an abusive background. Can bark at strangers on first approach, but seconds later he comes up, smells and he is becoming your best-ever mate! It wont take Spud long to gain his confidence and enjoy his family. He is a very loving dog who bonds deeply given a chance.
Spud mixes well with confident dogs and his submissive pup nature shines through, with other dogs rather pleased to have him around. Spud is neutered, vax'd and chipped. If you love Shepherds and if you have met the Shepherd x Collie mix before, you'll know just how much you'll love Spud. He is easily trained and just waiting for his skills to be affirmed and his pack leader.

| Taz Cross breed 1 year Caterham Surrey
ResRem 04/07/09 2:09
Taz His Story: Taz has bounced around homes having very little input. Been in kennels for at least 6 months.
Salient points: Good natured with people. Mixes well with dogs. Very trainable. 'Kennel' energy will soon settle.
Advert: Taz ... Razza ma Taz!! is a cross breed; born early 08, now just over a year old and has had a number of homes already. He loves people and will give you his heart...but got to catch him first, as he has a lot of energy, having been kennelled for 6 months bless. He will play with dogs, since neutered so settles well. Socialisation classes would be ideal to teach this new dog old tricks! Taz would be OK to live with older and sensible children. Know about sitting and paw..but needs reminding and counselling not to jump up in excitement. He will settle, just so much wants to do the right thing.
Oh what a wonderful boy who so much wants to please and is young enough to develop new skills; erasing his erratic past offering you his heart in the process. Taz is neutered, vacc'd and chipped. Currently kennelled in Caterham.

| Murphy 3 yrs Staffie Croydon Surrey
ResRem 04/07/09 2:06
Murphy is a compact, well-proportioned, extremely handsome Staffie. He is mainly black with a thin badger line on his highly crinkly forehead. His face seems to be very expressive and as a result he smiles, he laughs, he worries and he looks cross. Murphy somehow survives in kennels, but no this really doesn't suit him. In fact, other than for emergencies, he can't be a dog parked in kennels whilst the family enjoys their break. He has to be with you enjoying that break! He has got desperate in kennels, but kennel staff have been working with him and he is now so much happier to take the ebb and flow.
Murphy is a delight to be with and great to walk. He meets dogs well and has many a good smell of the flowers and toadstools. Murphy has had a few episodes of illness over the winter ... but again associated with getting himself low with the bleakness of day in day out. This is a dog who will enjoy the beach with his sailors costume; be great on a boat with his captains hat on; walking in the rain with his waxed jacket on. Murphy is a concentrated person who will have you in stitches with his antics. He needs a family with dog experience who can offer him gentle and firm command with humour and tact. Oh Murphy wish you were mine ... you're simply divine! Fostered near Farnham

| Cassie 1-2 yrs Staffie x extra special Croydon Surrey
ResRem 04/07/09 2:02
Her Story: Found stray in early Dec and taken to a Staffie prejudiced pound. A group clubbed together and funded her release and first 2 weeks kennelling, saving her life. The other 2 Staffies with her weren't so lucky.
Salient points: Young and vibrant. Needs active life with training and occupation. Good natured. Meeting dogs well now. Secure garden and regime. Unassessed in a domestic setting, so would be 'foster-with-the-view-to-homing. Not for cats or small furries.
Advert: Cassie is a beautiful Staffie cross. She has this long white sock which looks so different, as though she has come out in a rush and forgot to put the other on (perhaps she did). Cassie has abundance of personality and will have your extended family talking...can't wait to meet her. Older children would be in awe of her energy and "whow personality"..what a family dog. Oh see the smiles on visiting children's faces as they jump out of the car running towards the house "where's Cassie, where's Cassie!" Her fame travels as she has some magic about her- as a therapy dog she will put people at their ease and gives them a sense of positivity and enthusiasm. She is a "no nonsense"/ "happy to see you, lets have fun"- dog. She doesn't have reactions to dogs particularly but you get the sense she would prefer to be centre of attention in any family without competition! Cassie is spayed; vax'd and chipped. Not for cats or small furries -far too interesting.
Cassie is a well proportioned dog in good health. Her coat has improved. So sad to see Cassie in kennels and so far from where she wants to be! She is intelligent and ready to learn what is to be excepted of her. She'll soon be offering you her paw and doing your washing up! Cassie needs occupation and an active life style. Looking for a average size cross breed who will bring return on your love, care and guidance? Cassie will stay by your side for the rest of her life as that admired dog, who out shines all other contestents!

| Amba Cross breed 1-2 yrs Caterham Surrey
ResRem 04/07/09 2:02
Her Story: Found Stray homed for brief period, 2 foster homes, now kennels.
Salient points: Good to live with bigger dogs not of a challenging nature and older children. High energy. Highly trainable. Needs fair-sized garden or open fields.
Advert: Amba is a magnificent cross breed who stands elegant and runs like the wind. She is possibly only a year old and adapted well in the 4 settings we have known her in though it needs to said she did find living with 8 small dogs challenging. She couldn't quite stoop down low enough for serious play! And not sure her serious play was appreciated! She was then fostered with 2 larger dogs male and female and learned manners, commands and had great fun. Amba loved being up close and comfortable with horses, just her 'cup of tea' "well you know where you are with them and you can have meaningful conversations whilst their bedding is being turned and their hot oats prepared". Do you think she has shared ancestry? Amba lost her foster place as a new dog coming upset the dynamics. Amba is now back in kennels.
Amba loves to meet people, copes with busy social events and really responds to new situations which develop her confidence and skills further ... Amba is spayed, chipped and vax'd.

| Sandy young yellow lab cross
care 03/07/09 12:25
Sadly, Sandy is back with us after been re-homed in January. His problem is, he loves people and other dogs, and will run off with anyone. His owners were unable to teach him recall and had nowhere safe to walk him. He is very affectionate but would be too boisterous for young children. He needs someone used to boisterous dogs who can provide calm but firm control and is prepared to spend time training him. He is house trained but still makes occasional mistakes. He needs a home with plenty of space and another dog that can keep him in his place. He would benefit from regular training and something to exercise his brain such as agility. If you can offer Sandy a loving forever home please contact us on 0845 4630623 or email us on rehoming@ceredigionanimalrescue.org.uk We are based in West Wales but re-home all over the UK and will always carry out a home check. |

| Lola – young welsh hound
care 03/07/09 12:21
Lola was found as a stray and has the most adorable way of looking at you with those big sad eyes. She likes peace and quiet and can be quite timid but she is loving towards people so we think she has lived in the home and has probably been house trained. She loves affection and does not like being shut in. She is good with other dogs, and very laid back but has no concept of commands at all. She does not seem to have been even walked on a lead and her recall is non existent but she would make a lovely gentle companion for someone with patience and somewhere secure to exercise her. If you can offer Lola a loving forever home please contact us on 0845 4630623 or email us on rehoming@ceredigionanimalrescue.org.uk We are based in West Wales but rehome all over the UK and will always carry out a home check. |
|
| Tyler – approx 2 year old Staffie
care 03/07/09 12:20
Tyler is a handsome boy who has been in rescue for some time spending part of that time in a foster home. He loves people, and really misses being in a home. He is house trained ,and OK with female dogs outside of the kennel, but doesn’t like dogs in his face and chases cats. Because we don’t know much about his background we will not rehome him with young children. He travels well in the car and walks well on a lead. He knows basic commands and comes when called. He needs a secure garden with high fencing and an experienced owner able to deal with his dislike of other male dogs. He would be best as an only dog or with a laid back female of similar breeding. If you can offer Tyler a loving forever home please contact us on 0845 4630623 or email us on rehoming@ceredigionanimalrescue.org.uk We are based in West Wales but re-home all over the UK and will always carry out a home check.

| Brock – 2-year-old Patterdale terrier
care 03/07/09 12:19
| Brock is a typical example of a working terrier breed who, given the chance would love to rule the roost. He will take over if he is allowed and can be pretty hyper and excitable, although the more exercise he gets the better he is. He needs a home experienced with similar working terrier breeds without young children or cats, either as an only dog or with a female dog that can put him in his place. His recall is not good so he needs somewhere secure so he can get the exercise he needs and he also needs mental stimulation or a job to do and would probably enjoy agility or flyball. With firm and consistent handling he will make someone an affectionate and lively companion. If you can offer Brock a loving forever home please contact us on 0845 4630623 or email us on rehoming@ceredigionanimalrescue.org.uk. We are based in West Wales but re-home all over the UK and will always carry out a home check. |
|
| Jake – 10 month old husky mix
care 03/07/09 12:18
Jake is ½ huskie, ¼ collie & ¼ dalmation. He came to us because his owners couldn’t give him the time he needs. He is a typical boisterous puppy and needs a home with someone used to big dogs, and who is prepared to work on his training. He does have some basic commands, but his recall is not good at the moment. He is good with children and other dogs, but is untried with cats and other animals. He can be destructive when left and may be better with another dog for company. He is cage-trained at night and would need a lot of exercise, and a secure garden as he can jump fences. He is house-trained. If you can offer Jake a loving, forever home, please contact us on 0845 4630623 or email us on rehoming@ceredigionanimalrescue.org.uk. We are based in West Wales but rehome all over the UK and will always carry out a home check. |

LisaMayhew 03/07/09 6:54
Hello, my name is Caramel
I'm an eight week old, female Boxer type crossbreed. I arrived at The Mayhew after being found abandoned on the streets of London. I'm available for adoption now but won't be able to go to my new home until I've been neutered at twelve weeks of age.
I am a typical lively and playful puppy who needs a lot of attention. I am very affectionate, craving company and I love to learn. I'm also very inquisitive and into everything. I am good with other dogs, cats and children.
I am looking for a new home with someone who will make sure I get two gentle, thirty minute, off lead, socialisation outings per day whilst I'm still young, building up to a minimum of one to two hours of off lead exercise daily once I'm fully grown.
My new guardians will be at home for most of the day, have owned dogs before, will be knowledgeable about Boxers and will be prepared to take me to training classes. Any children in my new home will need to be at least seven years of age and upwards. My new guardians will be taking on a fifteen-year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.
Hope to see you soon

| Barley, Zoe and Tonka (Heinz 57 pups)
Assisi 02/07/09 15:15
These 3 gorgeous puppies (2 boys and one girl) came in for homing a few days ago at just 6 weeks old and were the result of an accidental mating. There mother was a lovely natured, medium sized Heinz 57 and the father unknown but we expect that he was quite a large fellow as all bar one of the puppies, who is tiny, weigh 4kg and 5kg already!
They are being fostered in the Surrey / Middlesex area and will be ready for homing once they have received their first vaccination and health check on the 3rd of July. Naturally they will also be fully wormed and flea treated. Adopters will be expected to neuter their puppy once old enough. Despite not having the best of starts (they were raised in the garden as their Mother lived outside) they are in good bodily condition and have lovely, friendly temperaments. They will be longish haired and could grow to be large dogs so please bear this in mind if you are considering applying. For homechecking purposes Enfield Dog Rescue would prefer that potential adopters live within London’s Home Counties. If you think that you can offer a perfect home for one of these perfect babies please email enquiries@enfielddogrescue.co.uk for a pre homing questionnaire.

| Lala
LisaMayhew 02/07/09 6:32
Hello, my name is Lala
I am a seven year old, female Weimeraner. I arrived at The Mayhew when my previous owners decided to emigrate. I am a nervous girl and found life on the dog section at The Mayhew very stressful so I am now in a foster home. My foster mum and dad are very patient but they are also very firm but fair with me and I have learnt to listen to them. Now I am more settled, I am very cuddly and love to stand with my head in their laps to be stroked. I’m a very affectionate girl. I am perfectly housetrained, settle down nicely at night in my comfy bed downstairs and I have been left alone for up to five hours without any fuss. I would happily live with someone who works fulltime providing they make sure I am not left for longer than 4-5 hours without a break.
I am calm in the house but I do bark when visitors come to the door. I can be unpredictable with strangers so care will need to be taken with introductions; once I have been properly introduced I am very friendly. I get on well with any children who visit us.
Although a strong girl, I walk well on the lead. I need to wear a muzzle and longline on my daily hour long off lead walks in the park and I need to be walked at a fast pace. I can be protective of my handler and don’t like people or dogs who come too close, especially when people rush over to stroke me, so my foster parents simply tell them not to come too near until they have been introduced to me properly and then everything is fine. I get on well with the other dog in my foster home, a young male Staffie, and although I was nervous and growly with him at first, we now have great fun playing together. I didn’t like sharing some of my toys at the beginning but I don’t care now when he grabs something I am playing with and I just let him have it. I could possibly live with another dog depending on introductions at The Mayhew. I travel well in the car and love to ride along with my head out of the window.
I am looking for patient new guardians who will give me plenty of time to settle down and who will also continue with my training. They will need to be experienced dog owners who will be confident in handling me. I can live with calm and sensible teenagers. I did live with a cat in the past and while I gently stepped over one in the park the other day, I do bark and chase any cats that come into the garden, so if I am to live a cat again we will have to be properly introduced. My foster dad says that I am a complex but wonderful dog, and with the right owners will make an excellent companion.
Hope to see you soon
